バイトを構成するのは8ビットの連続列である。

separator はここでは多分空白というかIFS。
応付子っぽい文字列の意味合いを変える文字は delimiter。
RFC 3986 - 統一資源識別子 (URI): 一般構文ではURIをASCII山括弧で囲んで明示するで引用している通り,

これらの文字を “delim...” 呼び。
配列の初期化子 [ ]は「ここから、ここまでが配列の定義ですよ」と範囲を定めている事になるので、デリミターになります。また配列の要素は、カンマで境界が区切られているので、これもデリミターです。まとめるとdelimiterは、構文における境界文字という感じですね。

〔CSV〕のカンマは境界を定めているので、delimiterとも言えます。ただし、フィールドを囲う “” はdelimiterですが、分離するためのものではないので、separatorにはなりません
